Team meeting in Chemnitz - Key takeaways
The latest MODUL4R team gathering took place from 17 to 18 June, 2025 at the project coordinator’s offices (Fraunhofer IWU) in Chemnitz, Germany.
The meeting gave our team the perfect opportunity to cover the full spectrum of research progress and achievements to date, as well as to plan the next steps now that our project has entered its final year. Over two action-packed days full of presentation sessions, and vivid discussions, several key-takeaways emerged. Here’s what you need to know:
Bridging the Physical and Digital Worlds
Asset Administration Shells (AAS) have been deployed in three of our use-cases, specifically in the NECO, FFT and SSF use-cases, to offer physical-digital integration through virtual commissioning and industrial metaverse solutions.
Making Smarter Manufacturing Decisions
Final touches are underway in our swarm intelligence system and the eXplainable Decision Support System (DSS), both designed for modular production lines. With a strong focus on user-centric interface design, the DSS provides clear, actionable recommendations to help users not only make informed decisions for manufacturing optimization but also understand why they are right choices.
Preparing the ground for adoption
Customized workshops are being rolled out for each use case, helping local teams prepare for the effective integration of MODUL4R solutions into their operations.
Beyond, professional matters the meeting included visits to the Fraunhofer research labs and to the city of Chemnitz which is also one of the capitals of culture in Europe in 2025.
Huge thanks to Dr. Markus Wabner, the MODUL4R project coordinator, for hosting such a tremendous meeting and to all partners for participating in such productive conversations.
