AMiMO cluster: a new collaboration of sister research projects

MODUL4R recently joined three other projects to form a cluster of EU funded projects, all sharing a common research focus on “Excellence in distributed control and modular manufacturing”. These projects have received funding from the Horizon Europe Programme and their primary objective is to explore the modularity of production systems that will enable flexibility and allow production to vary according to emerging needs and circumstances by introducing, changing, and removing different process steps. The synergistic collaboration among these research projects will expand their impact beyond individual schemes and contribute significantly to the dissemination and communication of cutting-edge scientific developments.

The initial virtual meeting of the partnering projects took place on July 10 2023, and their next appointment was arranged for October 11 2023. During the October meeting, the participants engaged in a productive brainstorming session to determine the official name of the cluster, which was ultimately named AMiMO (Automated Manufacturing with Intelligent Modules) after reaching a consensus. But there is more, the meeting allowed for in-depth discussions and the development of a comprehensive roadmap outlining common activities related to dissemination and communication that will continue to evolve until the completion of the four projects.

Projects forming AMiMO cluster

The projects that teamed up with MODUL4R and created the AMiMO cluster are:

ONE4ALL Agile and modular cyber-physical technologies supported by data-driven digital tools to reinforce manufacturing resilience

MARS Manufacturing Architecture for Resilience and Sustainability

MODAPTO MODULAR MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTED CONTROL VIA INTEROPERABLE DIGITAL TWINS

Project representatives

The project representatives who participated in the discussions and fostered this collaboration are:

Fraunhofer IWU and CORE IC on behalf of MODUL4R

EXELISIS IKE and CRIT on behalf of ONE4ALL

ENSAM and Steinbeis Europa Zentrum on behalf of MARS

ATHENS Technology Centre and Université de Lorraine on behalf of MODAPTO

Partners are enthusiastic and optimistic about the prospect of an ongoing and fruitful collaboration. Future meetings are already on the agenda, with the next gathering scheduled for February.
